What message is he sending?
Dear Sir,I was taken aback by the published quotes of Mr Ashfield DeVent JP MP printed in your newspaper questioning the individuals coming forth to run against him in the next election. His comments deeply concern me to say the least and I quote “The quality of the candidates who have put themselves forward concerns me,” Mr DeVent said. “It raises the issue of integrity of political candidates and what message we are sending our young people in this country ... We have a convicted armed robber and a fraudster. What's next?”Mr DeVent, anyone that knows you definitely know’s that you don’t have a choir boy status, so for you to say publicly your distaste for your opponents in this manner is mind boggling. You seem to sit high and above integrity but others know different. Mr Editor Mr. DeVent is chairman of the parole board. A position he chairs when convicts come before to be judge whether or not they have learned the lessons and have been rehabilitated. I wonder if Mr (Andre) Curtis received early parole. And if so did you Mr DeVent were present during his hearing! If both of my inquiries are true then you gave a rubber stamp to a reformed convict that legitimately gives him all the entities of the rest of the population that he lives in. Yet after being released you want to question the character of not one of your opponents but two them, but forgetting that precedence has been set for quite some time with the election of Shawn Crockwell out in the constituency of Pembroke West many years ago.Mr DeVent, there are a numerous of reformed criminals you represent in your constituency, so you are telling them that there is no written law that bars any of them from running but you, as the present sitting chairman of the parole board can suggest that if you have been incarcerated you shouldn’t be fit to stand for public office! What message are you sending them? Too many times we see doors close for ex-convicts attempting to re-enter themselves back in a just society, but we know those that unfortunately make a mistake in life will forever be held against them. When the election is called and if you should put your name forward for whatever entity you choose the people of constituency Pembroke South East will judge you equally and they will determine whether you are worthy of returning to the Honourable house. Ponder this Mr DeVent, if you are beaten by Mr Commissiong or Mr Curtis for the seat then what does that say about you? Food for thought! Thank youBROWNLOW ADDERLEY
