Affordable, not free
September 23, 2012Dear Sir,I believe the very first approach for the One Bermuda Alliance, when they become our new Government at the next election, is to stop monies from disappearing or simply being unaccounted for. Then all those things that became free should not be free, but affordable. Only if one absolutely follows due process, and interview, should free be considered. Simply by making things a minimal cost for the seniors or schoolchildren, revenue will be immediate, without any repercussions on those who inevitably really can afford something rather than nothing? Inexpensive or even cheap, is far better than free for the country.People have to be paid, buildings, buses and ferries have to be maintained, and it all costs money. I’ll even take it a step further; public schools should note that donations and contributions are greatly appreciated from the folks who use these facilities. Many of them can afford to do so. I’ve seen some fancy cars dropping off at public schools!I also truly believe that when the PLP are ousted, those that are in waiting to invest in this beautiful, once stable Island, will be back almost instantly.SYDNEYPaget
