A persecuted minority
October 17, 2012Dear Sir,Re: Black and white income widens?I worry for the white Bermudians. They are lumped together with some of the most successful people on the planet just to score political points. Expatriate workers hold qualifications, skills and experience that are sought after. Expats require large salaries to get them to live away from their homes. Just like the majority of Canadian, American and British people who are not skilled or qualified enough to be offered a job in Bermuda, people Bermuda will never see, white Bermudians are not part of the global elite. White Bermudians are a disadvantaged minority group who require the support of the whole of the Bermudian community. They should not be labelled as scapegoats or folk devils as a political device designed to line the pockets of a few privileged black Bermudian businessmen. What “racial justice” would those who use that word like? Some form of preferential treatment? Two wrongs do not make a right. There is a reason that so few white children attend the public schools. White children who attend these schools face the same persecution that their parents probably experience in public places.White parents are forced to drum up large sums of money to ensure their children do not have to learn in a hostile environment or face the consequences of having an introverted, underperforming and unhappy child. Private schools provide a better standard of education and the children who go to them will have more financial prospects.Maybe the structural racism we should be looking for is the structure that marginalises and persecutes a minority of white Bermudians, looks for ways to grant additional rights to the black majority and does not care that people are getting into mountains of debt just so their children are not bullied. Please do not publish my name or address as I fear persecution.PARENTWarwick
