Unacceptable in a democracy

November 12, 2012Dear Sir,It came as a shock this morning to learn that my husband of 64 years is now unable to vote in his own country because the ailments of advanced age (he is 91) mean that he is now totally incapable of going to the polling station.Unlike many other democracies, Bermuda appears to have no provision for postal or proxy voting. Although ten or more incapacitated seniors, probably in a rest home, may be visited by the Returning Officer, there are no provisions made, or staff available, for single citizens in their own homes. I have been told that it would require an Act of Parliament to change this.I am sure there are many others in like position. This is surely unacceptable in a democratic country.PAMELA DARRELLSpanish Point
