Judge by the results
December 11, 2012Dear Sir,Whether you are a family, a business or a political party, it’s all about the results of what you’ve been able to accomplish. Have you been able to accomplish what you set out to do?It’s not about the insults, the pandering or whatever passes between the players. What really matters is what has been accomplished, or not.If you look at what has transpired over the last 14 years, you can only shake your head and wonder what the heck has happened to this beautiful island. Our debt has increased ten-fold, borrowing to pay that debt has skyrocketed, there are untold millions of dollars that are unaccounted for. Where did all the money go? What do we have to show for it? There are dozens of companies and thousands of people that have left the island. Foreign businesses are definitely not made to feel welcomed here. The only real way we can dig ourselves out of the fiscal mess we are in is to do everything in our power to cut spending and raise revenue. The only real way Bermuda can do that is to encourage foreign businesses to come (back) to the island bringing many foreign workers and lots of dollars with them. When they do come, they should be welcomed with open arms because as a result of the money they bring with them, thousands of jobs will be created for Bermudians. This also means eliminating the term limits policies that have put a stranglehold on foreign business, causing them to think seriously about why they should stay, or even come here in the first place, when the government’s stated policy doesn’t really want them to stay too long. For all the thinking voters out there, the choice is yours to make on December 17. This is one of the most important elections in Bermuda’s history. Do you want to continue on the downward slide of the current government or do you want to bring in a new government made up of people with fresh ideas and made up of people who want to make Bermuda grow and make Bermuda a better place to live and work for all Bermudians?JMDPembroke
