Time for some tough love

December 6, 2012Dear Sir,To Our Loyal PLP Family. I hear and understand your wish to be faithful to the Progressive Labour Party and indeed there is huge merit in your devotion. But there comes a time when you must act in the best interest of the country and honestly evaluate their behaviour and whether they deserve your vote. More importantly you must consider whether a vote for the PLP is what will help Bermuda and you out of the sad state of affairs that we have allowed Bermuda to sink to. The PLP are telling you that they have a plan and you must stay strong and vote for them again, but you know truthfully that they have had 14 years and spent $10 billion and we the majority of the people are no better off. The global problems did not sink Bermuda to the depths of unemployment that we have. The PLP had plenty to do with this, we all know it. Sad but true and there were warning signs all the way along.Bermuda needs new hope. A new start. Fresh ideas. Hope for the people and the business community that employs the people. Regardless of which party that wins the election, the PLP have overspent and we, the people will have to pay. This is what the PLP is not telling you and their plan will only make things worse. The rich will always be rich comparatively, but there is no way that the middle class us people, black and white need to be suffering because of a government which does not have a clue how to turn our economy around. The PLP have had their chance for 14 years. They need a break. They need a timeout where they can either regroup and attract new blood who understand the real changes that they need to make, or go away like the UBP had to go away. Fourteen years ago the United Bermuda Party hit this same wall and needed to reinvent themselves. They were unsuccessful because they didn’t listen to the people, became arrogant and treated the people like they were stupid. That is exactly where the PLP is today.Bermuda and the PLP supporters should not be fooled or bamboozled by their racial rhetoric yet again. Many of our younger people have moved on and are tired of this old fashioned thinking and are educated enough not to be misled by it again. Do you really believe that the PLP is on the right track for Bermuda? For your families? Really? Bermuda needs a change and the One Bermuda Alliance offers a fresh chance for a new and positive direction and real hope for all Bermudians, not just a select few. Being misled into “staying strong” will only give us five more years of the same PLP mismanagement. We cannot afford that. Are you brave enough to say enough is enough to the PLP and enact some tough love? I trust that you do. Your whole Bermuda Family needs you. We all need a better future than what we have experienced these last six years.CHANGE MERCHANTDevonshire
