How we can heal
February 20, 2013Dear Sir,Marc Bean, the Opposition Leader, has certainly shown his colours early and maybe it is just as well, because they are not acceptable or worthy of a mounted response to refute his undiplomatic outrageous statements as to what he thinks of the opposition the One Bermuda Alliance and the past. He is too young, too brash, and it shows that it is too soon for him to handle his meteoric ascent with wisdom and diplomacy and above all a sense of responsibility regarding words spoken which have a powerful impact and an ability to be remembered long after they have been spoken, and more damaging than that, the words inherently belong to the speaker for ever, so one can be labelled a trouble maker, which usually leads eventually to the demise of the speaker. All these assets in politics come with experience and a deep sense of love and statesmanship for your country and not for yourself or your image. These things take time, none of which Marc Bean has or displays. This is sad really for him as he has blown a wonderful opportunity to prove himself and to his party as a peace maker and a role model for the younger aspiring youths who wish to enter into a position of service to their country. As he is a man of passion and can think on his feet maybe in time could be considered an asset, but right now he will do more harm with his rhetoric of spiteful shameful words, which he is in no mood to retract. I am sure there are many wonderful loyal Progressive Labour Party members who are sad too, as hope for a thoughtful healing wise opposition with a conciliatory frame of mind was what we were all hoping for. It is the only way to heal this lovely little Island so we must continue to hope, for one can see a quiet look in our Premier’s eyes that show us that he is for real, and wants more than anything to make Bermuda once again the place that so many of us remember and loved. We all deserve that chance again and for the future generation our children.DIANA WILLIAMS
