March 5, 2013Dear sir,As I sit reading today’s paper I notice that there isn’t much good going on in my country, go figure. People seem to like to put the blame on any and everything else instead of working together and taking credit when it’s due, good or bad. I am an avid reader of The Royal Gazette but this past week I have been disgusted by the actions of my people and just had to put my paper down. Two or three days ago the picture on the front page was, in my opinion, disgusting, shameful, and shows just how bad things have gotten. The image I am referring to is the one of the Progressive Labour Party supporter with his index finger pointed in our Premier’s face. Utter disgust. Let me state that I am not a supporter of either party, I am a supporter of change but the way my people are acting has got to stop! Regardless how you feel about him, he is still Premier. Whether you agree or not, he is to be shown respect. How do we as people expect change when that’s the respect given to the man who was voted in fair and square?When the PLP got into power, from what I remember there was a huge celebration. You didn’t see the behaviour that we are witnessing today. As a Bermudian it is shameful and out of our character. This is just one example of the images the youth are seeing and deeming “acceptable”, it’s sad and shameful. Now, I can go on and on, but this will take all day, so sir, what I’m trying to say is: my people, show some respect. The whole globe is faced with economic downturn, not just Bermuda. And we must remember that the One Bermuda Alliance was voted in by us ... the people, so give them a chance, just like the PLP was given a chance in 1998. It’s hasn’t even been three full months and already they’ve been fed to the wolves. Remember the situation they were handed. You must hit rock bottom before you can start to see change ... let’s not forget — one of the first decisions made by the OBA was to take pay cuts and downsize on GP cars, something we the people were pleading for from our previous government.DISGUSTED YOUNG READERSmith’s
