Double standard

March 15, 2013Dear Sir,Today, on the front page of The Royal Gazette, there is a clue from where this plague and misuse of the word ‘disrespect’ has originated. It is being used as a means to undermine the new Government and is becoming the excuse for all kinds of silly, nasty and disrespectful behaviour, planned and unleashed by the Bermuda Industrial Union and the Progressive Labour Party. It has merit as a disruptive excuse because the word allows itself to be misused and causes strong negative feelings. These orchestrated attacks show double standards because they are one-sided. In today’s Royal Gazette, Mr Furbert believes respect must be earned, but in the same breath we find Mr Furbert demanding respect for himself and the BIU — but nothing about earning it. Therefore, according to his own standards, he should not expect it.MARK EMMERSONPembroke
