No other choice
March 19, 2013Dear Sir,I think it is a good idea to have the cruise ships anchor in the Great Sound, or elsewhere, and using their own lifeboats to assist in the lift of passengers and crew. Let’s use our own local privately own boats as much as possible, it would take the strain off our Government ferries. Using cruise ship life boats tendering is not what we should be doing, but with the amount of cruise ship passengers and crew coming ashore we do not have other choice. Having to use a larger ferryboat from overseas, as a back up to our own Government ferries is a help, but it’s not the real answer in my opinion. We need more of our own Government ferries and a stricter maintenance programme after day light hours, of ferry boat and bus repair. Remember that we not only have to take care of our tourist lift but we have to have our own ferry schedules in place at the same time. While we are talking about passenger lift, should we not approach the manufacturers of those 15 buses which were brought here to help move wheelchair-bound people around and do not have air conditioning units or open windows and are very uncomfortable if used in our hot summer months whether they could be modified to suit our local needs?PETER BROMBY SRPaget
