Blaming UBP is insulting and untrue

March 25, 2013Dear Sir,While it would be of some interest to your readers to be given the views of why Col Burch feels the PLP lost the election on December 17, I wonder what the UBP had to do with it? What is most poignant and telling is the frank admission of losing their way in their core values.Col Burch was doing very well in a sobering admission of shortcomings while in power where the people were concerned. Certainly the debt and the people needing help which they did not provide was an honest and commendable acceptance of failure in that area. His words not mine.Humble pie is bitter for any political entity to eat after a defeat for sure, but to take an unnecessary and nasty swipe at your old foe is small and unbecoming. I of course am glad that we no longer languish under the PLP.Having said that I do acknowledge that they have core values that they hold dear even in defeat. To say that the now defunct UBP had no core values and only existed to be in power is both insulting and untrue. This statement was uncalled for and can only serve to lessen the impact of rejection of the PLP at the polls. The UBP served Bermuda well and does not deserve repudiation and recrimination because it makes the PLP feel better about suffering a loss they deserved.WAYNE B SCOTT
