Hard to get to grips with
June 9, 2013Dear Sir,Two words and a comma! As simple as that is to write, it seems that to some it is ten times as hard to come to grips with. There’s a political debate looming over the two words and a comma. It has been talked about for years in society as opinions have shifted for and against, like a slow playing tennis match, inside our political arena, our own separate mindsets and towards each other. What is it that steers this debate within ourselves, whether you’re for or against? Spiritually the churches have dug in and rightfully so. They cannot condone sin in any way, shape or form, despite the hypocritical communities that some of them lead.Is there any sin greater than another? The ten commandments are here for us to be guided by. What’s the difference in our society’s eyes between two men, one who steals $10 and the other who steals $10 million? The former will be given a talk and the latter will be given a prison sentence. How many of you rent apartments to single men and women with guests overnighting at will? No problem as long as the rent’s been paid. But these same individuals would have a problem with two gays or lesbians accommodating on their premises. Go figure.Just two examples of how our minds are shaped as we attempt to come to grips with issue. Now to the question I asked earlier in the third paragraph, what steers this debate within ourselves? That I can’t answer, but I have my own suspicions, but I will not open the proverbial Pandora’s box as it may deter from the mission at hand. What I can reveal is this. If you look at the world through the eyes of a sinner you will always have this issue that will divide you from them. If you look at it from a spiritual point of view, your opinion won’t change either. What we need to is for everyone look in the mirror at themselves and ask oneself what am I doing that is also against what God wants us to do?In other words, check ourselves before we judge the next person. Let God judge those who sin against him. When it happens it won’t be just against gays and lesbians, it will be against all who sin against the Spirit.BROWNLOW ADDERLEY
