Congratulations for improving Human Rights Act
July 6, 2013Dear Sir,I would like to congratulate our Premier Craig Cannonier and to show my warmest gratitude of a job well done in including sexual orientation in the Human Rights Act.I would also like to thank the current Government, as well as members of the PLP, who voted in favour of this bill. It has been a long, long process to reach this plateau. I am also very thankful that the citizens of an alternative gay, bisexual, lesbian, transgendered and clandestine lifestyle here in Bermuda can now feel an element of protection under this new bill.In respect to the religious community I realise that there are many individuals who do not condone the homosexuality lifestyle, however this does not make them homophobic. They are entitled to their opinions. I respect their beliefs because everybody is entitled too his/her feelings and opinions.I also believe Bermuda should be open to all walks of life and it’s a very vital market to move forward. I also feel the issue at hand is solely about human rights for all orientations of people. As far as civil unions and gay marriage are concerned, I have no comment on this and feel that it’s presumptuous to believe that basic human rights would lead to civil unions and gay marriages.Mark AndersonThe Man Behind Sybil Barrington
