Use our exclusive zone
August 12, 2013Dear Sir,If our Bermuda Government was to make contact with the Canadian Government and ask whether they would like to hold their sea operations in the Atlantic during the winter months in our 200 mile exclusive zone; using St George’s and Hamilton harbours as their bases for their ship crews to have their rest and relaxation periods, it would bring revenue to our Bermuda economy in more ways than one. There is easy access to fuel, water, and provisions, here in Bermuda should they require them. The families of the ships crews could even come here and enjoy the winter time which would be far better than enduring the cold winters of Canada. And why not approach other European nations and extend an invitation to hold their winter exercises in Bermuda waters with their navies? In my own opinion this suggestion would assist our tourism industry.PETER BROMBY SRPagetPS When the US Navy was here in Bermuda the Canadian Navy frequented Bermuda on a regular basis during the winter months.
