Do not discard me
Dear Sir,Like many I was very pleased to see homosexuality included in the Human Rights Act, something long overdue. Unfortunately, the Members of Parliament did not consider the abolition of a mandatory retirement age to be of sufficient importance to include at the time, stating that it will be visited at a later time. In other words, it won’t be considered. Unfortunately I’m one of those who find themselves in a position of having to retire at year end although I’m perfectly willing and capable of working for many more years. This makes me stop to wonder that if I was gay, could I be discriminated against for my age, as it would be against the law to dismiss me from my job for my sexual preference. So if one is a gay senior, how is a company going to differentiate between being a senior, and being gay?Thinking of changing sides.JC SIMPSONSt David’s
