Reducing Government costs

December 11, 2013

Dear Sir,

Everybody, except the unions and Government employees acknowledges that Government workers world wide are not particularly renowned for their productivity. Our own Government is so over populated that we need to borrow hundreds of millions of dollars every year just to pay their wages, salaries and generous benefits. Even when they retire we are paying up to 40% of their salary and health benefits for the rest of their life. There are thousands of them. Of course it would be perfectly acceptable if I had one of those jobs for life but it just isn’t gonna happen.

Private businessmen cannot afford to keep staff if the income is insufficient to pay them and the same should go for Government. Unfortunately, they don’t want to get off the gravy train and retire early so I believe the Government must impose an average 25% wage and salary cut from 1st April 2014 with the higher paid taking a proportionally higher cut. Nobody loses their job and while most of us have been surviving on half a loaf for years the Government workers will have three quarters of a loaf. Magic, still better off than the rest of us. Alternatively, provided at least 1,000 apply, offer to pay any employee 50% of their wage or salary for two years if they resign. If they are any good they can find a low paying (read normal) job in the private sector and make more money and contribute to the Government coffers. Think anybody would miss them when they were gone? Nope, me neither
