A wrong decision on film crew

April 9, 2014

Dear Sir,

The Shadow Minister Wayne Furbert was certainly correct when he pointed out that we would have been better off if Minister Fahy had given the film crew the permission to work here. None of us (or at least very few of us) want to be reminded of the tragedy and miscarriage of justice surrounding Rebecca Middleton. But we have no control over that. The film will be done with or without our permission to do it here. We would have been so much better off if they had been given permission and then everything was done to assist them and show them the best of Bermudian hospitality.

At least then they could have had something good to say about us. The dictatorial, undemocratic attitude of the OBA might make it possible for them to control Bermudians but it will not work elsewhere. It is most unfortunate that he has given that crew a reason to say anything bad, or “sensational” about us that they choose. They told him that the film would be made in any case so what did he think would be gained by refusing them permission to do it here?
