Remember the name Rachel Biggs
April 29, 2014
Dear Sir,
While I do sincerely appreciate the recent, positive article published by The Royal Gazette, highlighting the work done by BIOS at Devil’s Hole, it is an unfortunate oversight that your writer, Mr Johnston-Barnes, did not specifically note the name of the ‘spokeswoman’, Rachel Biggs, whom he quoted extensively in this article.
It is important to truly give credit where credit is due, largely in this case, as this woman is not only a ‘spokesperson’ of BIOS, but the lead author on this particular study, a well-educated, highly respected, Bermudian marine biologist who works tirelessly at BIOS as a researcher, teacher, and marine life and environmental advocate.
I assume Mr Johnston-Barnes must have interviewed her directly so I do not understand this most unfortunate omission.
Her name is Rachel Biggs, and I am writing on her behalf as she is currently too busy seriously researching, intrepidly writing grants for support, and running effective, educational programmes not only for our own local students but also those who choose to study here from abroad, championing for our precious, vital, natural environment all while indefatigably encouraging and teaching others to do the same.
Rachel Biggs - note it down. She is quite a remarkable scientist, Bermudian and human being.
Thanks for your attention in this matter,
Cherie Sikking
Editor’s note: The information used in the article was provide wholly by BIOS, and at no time was Rachel Biggs mentioned by them. Any oversight therefore happened before the information reached The Royal Gazette.
