An apology
On Monday, July 21, The Royal Gazette ran a letter entitled, A one-sided story.
The letter accused Bermuda Broadcasting of being little more than a mouth-piece for the Progressive Labour Party. In particular it cast aspersions on reporters Gary Moreno and Tarai Trott accusing them of making ‘snide remarks’, while saying the ‘one-sided reporting was offensive’.
It went on to brand the radio presenter Sherri J as irrelevant and her listeners as sheep.
This is a letter that should never have been published, and for which we apologise unreservedly.
There is a place in civilised society for decent debate and disagreement, there is no place for anonymous attacks such as this, ever. It is not The Royal Gazette’s policy to print such attacks, and it never will be. Mr Moreno, Mr Trott, and Mrs Simmons are well-respected professionals doing a job to the best of their ability, and do not deserve to be attacked for doing so.
Again, The Royal Gazette would like to apologise unreservedly for allowing this letter to go in to print, and can assure those concerned, and the Island at large, that it will not happen again.
Anonymous letters that contain personal attacks, and baseless accusations, will never be printed.
