Politicians put power before constituents
Dear Sir,
This letter was in response to an article in the August 8 Royal Gazette, with reference Rolfe Commissiong, the Shadow Minister of Human Affairs.
One hundred per cent equality and opportunity for all. Even this grievance-based politician says there has been progress.
The “corporate world” does give scholarships, jobs and promotion, or training to aspirant and qualified Bermudians of every ethnicity. In reality, capable people of all ethnicities do get jobs.
Why? Because these people work hard, have skills and contribute. Let’s help more up the ladder but they have to want to climb.
When will such politicians/consultants acknowledge that Bermuda, like any jurisdiction, must bear some responsibility? Equip people with the skills the market needs!
It is tragic that this politician/consultant does not mention the deficiencies in the educational standards to get many people to the level where they can even be considered.
This “Legislative Agenda” is restrictive immigration policy conditioning the grant of permits.
These race warriors will start legislating who companies must hire to get a permit.
Reality check: they don’t impose legal obligations elsewhere, meaning Bermuda will add to the one million square feet of empty space in Hamilton.
There will be fewer companies, jobs, lower housing prices in Bermuda, not more. That was the effect last time around. But, here the politicians go again — power hunger before their own constituents’ interests.
RESPONSIBLE CONTRIBUTOR
