Claims to word ‘marriage’ should be denied
Dear Sir,
I realise the dangers of throwing my hat into such a sensitive ring, but for the sake of tolerance, I take the risk.
If a couple of the same sex wish to live together in harmony, there needs to be no law.
They should also agree to deny claims to the sacred word “marriage”.
They should also agree to relinquish claims to the Government, for the benefits of a legal union.
They should take out their own private financial insurances and whatever protection deemed necessary.
Ask a clergy who would be willing to bless them ... and live happily ever after.
For us to be asked to sign a Bill to accommodate couples wanting “it all” encroaches on our centuries-old, naturally held beliefs, and our basic comfort levels. There should be time, a time to let it have its way, and to have the time to absorb these new concepts. After all, same-sex advocates have achieved a great deal already, which just a short time ago would have been unthinkable.
I started with the call for tolerance, but it must be with a conscience and should not be rushed.
DIANA WILLIAMS
