Hayward’s message to Government badly needed

Olive branch: Jason Hayward, the president of the Bermuda Public Services Union (File photograph by Akil Simmons)

Dear Sir,

The heart-warming message on the front page of my Royal Gazette by Jason Hayward, representing the president of the Bermuda Public Services Union, is a welcome and a desperately needed olive branch to heal some of the hurdles that face the Government.

Mr Hayward and his committee should be congratulated. The timing is paramount to success.

The Government, in previous statements, made it clear that they too wished a new beginning with the Progressive Labour Party and the unions.

Only through this kind of sitting down together and truly listening to each other, can this Island start to progress to the benefit of all. We all have a part in this new excitement, a feeling of a positive outcome, and that this lovely little Island will once again be the envy of the world.

It won’t be easy, for there are some who will suffer more than others, but that is the reality of life.

If each and every one of us helps wherever we can, we can go back to what we used to be.

We will “showcase” the world with that God-given opportunity, the America’s Cup, and make that expression “Bermuda is another world” the reality that has always made us so proud to be Bermudian.
