Supporting call for hospice’s upgrade

Care praised: Agape House

Dear Sir,

I, too, would like to join Robert Davis Jr (RG, March 7, 2016) in giving thanks to the wonderful care and understanding of the nurses of Agape House, and also to endorse his request to the Bermuda Government and King Edward VII Memorial Hospital to upgrade this facility.

My husband, Guilden Gilbert Sr, was admitted to Agape House last July and, although he was initially reluctant to go, he was made to feel good and was cared for. The nurses not only made my husband comfortable in body and mind, they also gave me big hugs and reassurances when I was visiting.

I would also like to give thanks to Bernice Zoft-Gibbons and Donna Viney, my husband’s nurses from Pals; they both went above and beyond to help make his last days comfortable, and he appreciated them dearly. I can’t forget the kindness of the nurses and staff of the oncology department of KEMH. They made the hours when Guilden was receiving chemotherapy pass by in a happy way.

They couldn’t do enough to make us both feel comfortable.

All of these ladies are so special and my family and myself cannot thank them enough. Please continue with your good works. You are all much appreciated.

SYLVIA A. GILBERT
