Shovel and hoe would sort out weeds

Waiting for weedkiller: there was a time when weeds on the road were cleaned up by hoe and shovel

Dear Sir,

I remember when there was a time when weeds on the road were cleaned up by hoe and shovel, and yet the roads were always immaculate. While the Government is waiting for a new weedkiller, why can’t we have workers out there doing it the old-fashioned way, an area at a time? At least in areas where tourists will see our island.

Just imagine a tourist who has never been here: their first impression will be a lasting impression.

I would also like to know what their excuse is for not mowing grass. For instance, the sidewalk above the Government’s Tulo Valley plant nursery was not mowed for more than a month and a half. With all the rain we had, you can imagine how long the grass had become; the sidewalk was unwalkable.

Are they going to sit back and blame something else? If it is your responsibility, then find a way to get it done and don’t wait until bus stops are overgrown by more than five feet with cane grass so people have literally to stand in the road.
