No radio silence – good reception all-round

Many happy returns: an aerial view of Bermuda

Dear Sir,

Recently, along with my wife and two other couples, I was fortunate to spend a great week in Bermuda. What a wonderful place!

As your readers know, the people are most welcoming and friendly. Every store, restaurant, bus, taxi and ferry was staffed by helpful and courteous “ambassadors”.

As an amateur radio operator from the United States, one of the unique highlights of my trip was operating my radio from Bermuda. Transmitting from another country is an exciting aspect of our radio hobby and I took full advantage of the opportunity while vacationing in Warwick.

My experience was highlighted by the warm welcome that was extended to me by several amateurs who are part of the Radio Society of Bermuda, especially Glen Cuoco, society president.

Even before I arrived, Beverly Evans of the Telecommunications Office in Hamilton, corresponded with me by e-mail and made sure I was issued the permit necessary to operate my radio in Bermuda. Everyone who visits Bermuda must tell you how well they were treated during their stay. However, you probably don’t get many letters complimenting your amateur radio community. But if more “amateurs” visited Bermuda, I’m sure you would.
