A poem for Tim

Larger than life: former Royal Gazettte consultant editor and Mid Ocean News editor Tim Hodgson is shown in 2014 (File photograph)

Dear Sir,

So many have felt the grievous loss of our writer, and exemplary Bermudian, Tim Hodgson.

The most sensitive, generous and humble of us are often unaware of their vast impact.

Tim wrote with a rare intellect, emotional intelligence and integrity.

He lived his life the same way.

He lit many fires and I hope those who have been inspired continue on in his tradition.

For Tim,

Where do words go when their intrepid leader falls?

Do they shatter on ancient coral roads,

Glittering shards of scattered light?

Or do they wash away into the sea,

To be devoured by the fry?

The ones imprinted on the page,

Stand stalwart, tried and true,

The ones left viscous in his pen,

Wait silently for whom?

With deep and abiding appreciation,

CHERIE AMOS SIKKING
