We need to speak up for Sandys Secondary Middle School
Dear Sir,
Please may I have a little space in your newspaper. Am I to understand correctly that this government is considering dismantling Sandys Secondary Middle School?
This should not be even a thought after the folks in Somerset fought so hard to provide an addition to the Berkeley Institute, which was the only high school for Black people during the segregated 1920s, one of whom was my great-aunt, nurse Alice Scott, who mortgaged her house, “Shady Rest”, to ensure Sandys continued to hold a place in Bermuda’s history.
I am horrified at the deafening silence on this proposal from former pupils and teachers who benefited from this great institution .
My great-aunt is not turning in her grave; she, along with the other champions of Sandys, are standing.
If this is fact, please do not do this. Find some other means to cut costs.
