What about the Flora Duffy National Stadium?
Dear Sir,
With the most stunning and momentous accomplishment of Flora Duffy, the darling of athletic prowess in Bermuda’s history, I thought it would be most fitting to consider the naming of our national stadium in her honour for posterity going forward.
The court building is named, as is the airport, after worthy Bermudians for their contributions to our community over many years. We also honoured Clyde Best with the centre that now proudly bears his name.
What a groundswell of pride and national satisfaction this young woman has given to us on this tiny island to stand at the top of the podium in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as the best female triathlete in the world — pure gold, it simply does not get any better.
Throwing in her world champion status of recent years puts the cherry on the top of our proverbial cake. A lifetime of work and achievement deserves this most enviable consideration.
Flora, you made us swoon, laugh, cry and beam with proud, ecstatic joy when you broke the tape in Tokyo.
We love you and say thank you for this never-forgotten thrill. You deserve our highest honour indeed.
