Feeling stiffed by airline over extra luggage
Dear Sir,
I am hoping you will publish my letter as a heads-up/warning to other travellers using Air Canada.
I returned home yesterday (September 30, 2022) on the Air Canada flight, considerably upset, by my treatment at Toronto Pearson International Airport. I had checked in and was waiting in the line to go through to the departure area when I was approached by an Air Canada representative, who told me my hand baggage was too big and would have to be checked.
When I tried to explain that I had travelled with this bag for many years with no problem, he suggested that if I did not check it, I would be taken off the flight. With no choice, I was forced to check it. I had already checked three bags and paid the excess of $300-plus, which I had expected, as I am a porcelain doll maker who enters international competition and therefore cannot travel light.
I duly checked in the bag at a cost of an additional $400. Horrendous. You can imagine, then, my anger on boarding the plane to see hand baggage larger than mine in the overhead bins.
I have included photos to prove my point, which I hope you will have room to include. I am a 74-year-old woman on a fixed income and use a walking stick to help with mobility. The blue case is the one I refer to.
The red ones are mine to indicate the size of my hand luggage.
