Flora Duffy deserves to have airport named after her
Dear Sir,
I would like to propose changing the name of our airport to Flora Duffy International Airport.
L.F. “Freddy” Wade was a good man, but naming public buildings after politicians has never sat well with me.
I knew Mr Wade quite well. We crossed paths many times over the years in business and struck up a good relationship. I liked him, but he was a politician and politicians by their nature are polarising.
The name of an international airport should not be polarising; it should be a source of national pride. And who as a Bermudian are we collectively more proud of than Dame Flora Duffy?
I know we’ve already named things after her [Corkscrew Hill and the National Stadium], but considering all that she has accomplished on the international stage, doesn’t an airport seem like the most fitting place to commemorate her?
A place where international visitors will see right away just how proud we are of her as they come to visit our beautiful country.
