Best emancipation ever ...

Dear Sir,

Well, here we are at another Cup Match, the only holiday that rivals Christmas as a national festival of sorts for Bermudians. We hail our most beloved emancipation from the horrors of slavery and subjugation of the most awful application. This is good and very appropriate to celebrate.

However, I would like to bring to our attention some other forms of emancipation for us to consider at this time, such as our females being allowed to go about their business in public without catcalls and sexual remarks from men.

Kudos to the female writer for her letter to you dated July 26. What she had to say was most timely and poignant for our men to think about for better behaviour in public towards our women.

Also, it would be fair to say our females are not beyond rebuke for the disturbing lack of modesty in their choice of apparel, which often covers less than what is normally worn as underwear. Bob Marley’s recording “emancipate yourself from mental slavery” may well apply, ladies.

It is possible, though, to have a wonderful holiday of freedom without alcohol consumption. The truth is that all Bermudians do not love to drink. We do need to drive and ride, so please do not drink. What is needed is designated responsibility by all of us at all times.

We could use some emancipation on our roads to travel safely without the nerve-racking behaviour of riders and drivers travelling at speeds that would be normal at motos and grands prix.

Freedom to travel to our destinations without the fear of death — what a novel idea.

During our Cup Match and emancipation celebrations with cricket, beaching, boating and travel, it is most enjoyable indeed. However, the best freedom and liberation come from new life in Christ by trusting in him for our eternal salvation.

He brings to us the most precious emancipation we can have in this life, when we experience redemption and forgiveness of our sins. Why not trust him today? If you do this, it would be the best decision in your life.

Have a wonderful Cup Match and hopefully the most wonderful freedom and precious liberty in Christ by giving your heart, soul and mind to Him.
