Hot and bothered at the airport

Deborah Albuoy and fellow travellers would have appreciated seeing this many taxis. But they didn’t (File photograph by Akil Simmons)

Dear Sir,

On May 28, I arrived on the island, cleared immigration and customs very quickly, then was quite surprised to see there were no taxis outside. The dispatcher was trying her best to get everyone to their destination as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately, there were no taxis coming quick enough and the line was becoming quite long. As taxis were coming in slowly, like one at a time, and depending on where you were going, the dispatcher asked if you were interested in sharing a cab. This helped to move things along.

Skyport staff member Cathy Bean came out, saw the line and was calling for taxis to come to the airport. In the meantime, she realised how hot it was, went inside and came back with bottles of water. She started handing them out to the passengers while we waited for taxis to arrive. This was very kind and thoughtful of her.

Transport minister Wayne Furbert, this situation needs immediate attention as this was unacceptable. You had two full flights arriving one behind the other and no way for all passengers to get to their destination. If we are trying to be a good tourist destination, we need to do better.
