Something to be said for humility

“Being humble means recognising that we are not on Earth to see how important we can become, but to see how much difference we can make in the lives of others.”— Gordon B Hinckley

Dear Sir,

In our journeys through life, both personal and professional, we often strive for growth, success and recognition. However, as we achieve these milestones and find ourselves elevated in our careers and lives, it is crucial to remain grounded and humble.

Humility is not just a virtue; it is a strength that keeps us connected to our roots and to the people who supported us along the way. It is easy to get swept up in the accolades and achievements, but true success lies in our ability to stay humble, recognising that we are part of a larger community and that our accomplishments are often the result of collective efforts.

Remaining humble allows us to maintain genuine relationships and continue learning from those around us. It reminds us to appreciate the small, everyday moments that contribute to our happiness and success. Furthermore, humility fosters empathy, allowing us to understand and support others in their endeavours, creating a positive and collaborative environment.

In a world that often celebrates individual success and status, let us remember that humility enriches our character and strengthens our communities. By staying humble, we not only honour our journey but also inspire others to do the same.

Many successful people fail in the end because they become complacent, overconfident or disconnected from the qualities and practices that initially drove their success. As they rise, they might neglect continuous learning, fail to adapt to changing environments or lose touch with the team and support network that contributed to their achievements.

Additionally, the allure of power and wealth can lead to unethical decisions, eroding trust and integrity. Ultimately, the inability to stay grounded, self-aware and adaptable in the face of success often precipitates their downfall.
