Making Bermuda competitive
Dear Sir,
I must put pen to paper again.
Where are the cruise ships on a regular basis, April through October? We need two in St George’s, three in Hamilton and two at Morgan’s Point during the week.
Where are the hotels under construction? Three hundred rooms, spread around the island. We need the likes of Hilton, Wynn, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, etc.
Bermuda Tourism Authority, please do your job!
Reintroduce College Weeks, March to May.
And why have we not opened the island to new banks, like JP Morgan, Citigroup, Bank of America, Barclays and Standard Chartered? More competition creates better service, more products and greater convenience.
The rest of the world is eating our lunch, because we, as an island, are asleep at the wheel. Let’s get professionals in these areas to get the job done and not political appointees.
It’s time for a one-year freeze on work permits to get Bermudians back to work. Also, create a database to see how many Bermudians are out of work – including their ages, work history, qualifications and educational background.
Let’s get competitive as an island, we travel enough to see what works and what does not elsewhere in the world. Observe and execute.
