No excuse for this volume of flooding

The area near Lighthouse Hill, Southampton, during the worst of the flooding last week (Photograph supplied)

Dear Sir,

It is beyond comprehension that flooding occurs at the bottom of Lighthouse Hill by Waterlot Inn.

Considering sea level is about 20 feet below road level, why cannot a couple of six-inch pipes be inserted in the wall to drain the water into Jews Bay?

There is absolutely no need for such an accumulation of water, even if there was ten inches of rain!

Maybe the solution is so simple that the folks in control of drainage cannot see the wood for the trees.
