Waiting for return of lighthouse

Gibbs Hill Lighthouse has been closed since mid-January (File photograph by Blaire Simmons)

Dear Sir,

I was surprised to discover that Gibbs Hill Lighthouse is still closed to visitors because the new safety railings at the top have not yet been installed after the tragic incident that occurred there several weeks ago.

Considering that the lighthouse is one of Bermuda’s premier tourist attractions and that hundreds of people want to climb it each year, this is rather dismaying, especially as the tourist season will very shortly be upon us!

However, you don’t need to climb to the top to do some good whale-spotting!
