During a time when most companies are cutting back, Bermuda Press and its sister company, Chameleon, have invested close to $2 million in state-of-the-art equipment to ensure a spot at the top of the local printing industry.Bermuda Press, located on Addendum Lane in Pembroke, dealt with a round of layoffs in late 2010, but the company says the restructuring process has readied the company to meet the challenges of the ongoing tough economy. The Bermuda Press's parent company, Bermuda Press (Holdings) Ltd, also owns The Royal Gazette.“We offer the same services but now in a smaller footprint,” said Greg Cody, who leads the 20-person team at Chameleon and Bermuda Press along with pressman Ron Shaw. “Bermuda Press Ltd is alive and well and as strong, if not stronger, than before.”As part of the capital investment plan, the traditional offset printing press saw the installation of a PM52 four-colour press and “state-of-the-art computer to plate processing equipment” that can provide clients with a wide range of products.“We are capable of providing anything from business cards to annual reports, catalogues, advertising materials, and books and in several types of finishes from simple folding to dye cutting,” explained Mr Cody. “There's no project too big, too small, too simple or too complicated that can't be done for our clients.”Bermuda Press's on-demand sister company, Chameleon, located on Burnaby Street, welcomed upgrades to their copier and binding equipment as well as the installation of a state-of-the-art Cannon digital image press to complement its existing Indigo digital printing press.“We saw the marketplace changing to a more high quality, on-demand market that required digital, on-demand equipment,” said Mr Cody. “So we took the necessary steps to ensure we are equipped to meet the challenges and needs of our clients.”With their new equipment, he said, “we can print and bind a customer's annual report in a couple of hours. We now have same-day service for things that may have taken a full business week before.“In our business plan, we saw the dynamics of the business community changing as the economy was changing,” he added. “We felt that people and companies were looking for lesser quantities of product, with a quick turnaround and more value for their dollar.“With Bermuda Press and Chameleon, we are creating the best of both worlds to meet our clients' demands.”Bermuda Press (Holdings) Ltd owns printing, media, retail and real estate interests in Bermuda, including The Royal Gazette Ltd, Crown House Properties Ltd, The Stationery Store and Pronto Print Ltd.
