Go Jo’s cafe plans summer opening in St George’s
A new cafe is planned for King’s Square in St George’s.St. Georgians John Tester and George Sutherland are planning to open a coffee shop in what is currently office space, right on the historic square in the building housing Western Union, and next to the ducking stool.They have applied to Planning for a change-of-use from an office to a coffee shop.Mr Tester said the idea has the support of the Corporation of St George and other groups and they hope to open “Go Jo’s” (named after George and John) this summer pending the necessary approvals.He said spotting the “ideal” location, right on the square and by the water, made him interested initially in opening up a cafe there.“I live in St George’s and there are always people walking around the town and square looking for something to do,” he said.Mr Tester said the cafe will sell coffees, drinks, ice cream, and sandwiches, and the plan is to have outdoor seating.Mr Tester’s background is in IT.Together with Allan Young he formed Data Tech, which installs point-of-sales systems for supermarkets and other retailers.Mr Sutherland works in education. Both live in the Old Town.
