Pulp & Circumstance has stepped in to fill a void left by the closure of the Airport gift shop.Owner Kristi Grayston said the store in the US departure area was now selling sundries, candy, snacks and newspapers, and would continue to do so even after a new gift store opens in the space vacated by Airport Shops Ltd.She said the store had also added a selection of souvenirs and popular Bermuda gifts such as rum cakes and ginger beer, and she was looking into eventually selling magazines and current books as well.Ms Grayston said the Airport store opens at 6.30am for the first flights out of LF Wade International Airport.A new operator for the closed Airport gift shop has been found but is awaiting approval of US officials before it can take over the space. After 30 years, Airport Shops on Monday closed the gift and sundries shop and adjoining apparel store as well as the gift shop in the BA departure lounge, citing a downturn in business due to lighter passenger loads. Four staff were laid off.The Royal Gazette understands the operators of the Airport duty-free shop are hoping to take over the space vacated by Airport Shops.
