Appleby appoints Ouwehand
Law firm Appleby has announced the appointment of Martin Ouwehand as counsel of Appleby (Bermuda) Ltd’s Litigation and Insolvency department.Mr Ouwehand joined Appleby (Bermuda) Ltd in 2009 as a senior associate. He has substantial experience and expertise in many areas of corporate and commercial litigation, arbitration and contentious insolvency from a number of jurisdictions, both as an advocate and advisor.His practice is focused on complex disputes which are international in nature or involve cross-border issues. Mr Ouwehand regularly acts for financial institutions, funds and high net-worth individuals, and advises on non-contentious restructuring, corporate insolvency proceedings and shareholder matters.Kiernan Bell, Bermuda office managing partner, said: “Martin’s appointment is a reflection of the depth of his legal expertise and proven litigation skills in a competitive and vibrant market. He is admitted to practice in a number of jurisdictions, including England and Wales, and New York.Recently, Mr Ouwehand co-authored a chapter in Global Legal Insights on Bermuda litigation and dispute resolution, and wrote articles for The Bankruptcy Strategist and Euromoney’s Global Insolvency & Restructuring Review on offshore insolvency proceedings.
