E-tailer of the week: Redlaser
The Bermuda Chamber of Commerce, the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation (BEDC), and the Department of E-Commerce are sponsoring two eMondays this year — one on July 23, the other on November 26.On both days, online shoppers will see special savings and deep discounts from Bermuda online retailers or ‘e-tailers’.In the lead up to the July eMonday, The Royal Gazette each Monday will feature a different Bermuda e-tailer that will be participating. This week’s e-tailer is also eMonday’s e-tailer of the month, Redlaser.E-tailer of the week: RedlaserWebsite: www.redlaser.bmProducts/services sold:We sell a wide variety of computer hardware, software, cables, blank media, and security products to satisfy the needs of most home and small business users. We sell many of the leading brands including APC, Tripplite, Asus, Buffalo, Linksys/Cisco, Logitech, LG, Microsoft, Iomega, Western Digital, Seagate, Viewsonic and Night Owl. We also sell inkjet, laser, dot matrix and thermal printers and MFP’s by four leaders in the business, HP, Epson, Dymo and Kyocera. Naturally, we sell toner and inks for these brands as well as every other major brand sold locally. Why an e-business?It allows our existing customers (and potential customers) a way to browse our e-tail store, compare prices and shop online at a time that is convenient for them, whether it be during a break or at 2:00am. The store is always open for browsing and business. Many customers that are still are not comfortable with the idea of making the actual purchase online will often print out product information from the website and bring it with them. This allows them to save time when making the purchase as they can provide the sales person with exactly what they are looking for. What did you do to get started? We registered our .bm domain name with www.bermudaNIC.bm. It is a simple process. We then consulted with a few website designers in order to find the company and web-hosting partner that could offer a website that we felt would be secure and easy to manage. We then looked at the websites of several overseas companies in the same business for ideas in order to give the web designer a list of the features that we wanted to include. How do you promote your e-business?To be honest, we do very little aside from some traditional advertising in the Yellow Pages, e-Moo, and a few other local publications to promote the website. The website has been around for many years and most businesses and local residents are already aware of the site and the products we offer. What advice would you give to someone thinking of starting an e-business?I would strongly recommend that you begin by taking advantage of the workshops currently available at www.eMonday.bm for guidance. There is also a lot of valuable information and support available from entities such as the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation. I would also recommend registering your domain name here locally at www.bermudaNIC.com. It is free. There is currently no monthly or annual fee and therefore you do not have to worry that someone may steal your domain name should you or the individual you hire ever forget to pay the domain registration company. I would also encourage future e-business owners to select a web designer that will allow you some control over your own website. Prices and products are continuously changing and the last thing you want is to be held hostage by a company that has full control and access to your website and will charge you each time you need to make a simple price change, or add or remove products. What do you do to develop/retain customer loyalty? We simply do our best to offer great service. We trust that if we continue to offer a good selection of name brand quality products at fair prices and bundle that with free same-day delivery, our customers will continue to visit our website when considering making purchase. To see what sort of sales Redlaser is running for eMonday, or to see a list of e-tailers participating in eMonday on July 23, go to www.eMonday.bm.
