Bermuda CableVision launches Video-on-Demand
Bermuda CableVision has just launched its new Video-on-Demand (VOD) service. Now available in Somerset, the new offering will be rolled out parish-by-parish over the coming months, moving from West to East.CableVision customers will find the new “Anytime Entertainment” service on Channel 500, which the company says will include a vast library of movies, shows and events that customers can browse and access whenever they want.The announcement comes a week after rival World on Wireless announced the launch of its own Island-wide video-on-demand service.“Video-on-Demand is one of the most popular services in entertainment today,” said Terry Roberson, general manager of CableVision. “It’s TV on their [the customers’] schedule — no need to leave home — and with access to a huge and growing selection of programming.”Viewers will be able to choose from a wide selection of programming that includes both free and paying content. Prices for paying content start at $2.99. Categories viewers will see include: new releases, HD (and soon) 3D movies, ‘Free For Kids’ content, events like UFC and boxing and Premium channel programming from Showtime and TMC. There is also a free Karaoke channel as well as free sports programming.Viewers will also be able to pause, rewind and fast-forward the VOD programming they are watching.“Now, if you decide to rent a movie at 3.24pm, you can start watching it then, pause and finish watching later that evening. You can even watch the movie over again. Movies will be available on our system even before they reach Netflix,” Mr Roberson said.The VOD service works with any of the digital set-top boxes currently in customers’ homes and will be added to customers’ service without the need for a service call or hook up. It will eventually be available to all CableVision subscribers and does not require internet service or a monthly subscription. The company will make further announcements as subsequent parishes are activated every few weeks.Customers interested in purchasing programming from the VOD channel will need to visit company’s website (www.cablevision.bm) or Customer Care Centre at in the Washington Mall to register a confidential PIN number. This number, also used for Pay-per-View movies and events, protects customers from unauthorised us of their account. Customers will receive an itemised listing of their VOD purchases on their monthly statements.To assist customers in using the service, CableVision is providing an instructional video on Channels 99 and 100 that explains how to browse and order VOD programming. Leaflets will also be available at CableVision’s Washington Mall location or can be downloaded from the company’s website.CableVision is also inviting customers to visit their Washington Mall location today through Saturday, October 6, and sing a song from the Karaoke library. Each singer will receive a voucher good for $20 off their cable bill.
