A manicure for $10 in Bermuda!You read right. It’s being offered at the new Bermuda College nail salon.The College is trying to train more Bermudians to fill jobs in the increasing number of nail salons and spas opening up in Bermuda.Trainee nail technicians will work on students, faculty, staff and members of the general public for the next three months, as part of their practical training. The class also visited the Lorraine Rest Home to give the elderly residents some much appreciated pampering.The course is offered through the College’s Professional and Career Education (PACE) Division, and coordinator, Sandra Dill, said it’s a wonderful “win-win” combination, giving the young ladies real clients to work on, while “we get prettier nails” .The initiative runs until early December.“The class is going extremely well,” Ms Dill said yesterday. “There are currently ten students who are diligently engaging in the programme. I would say the students all had a passion for it.”The ten, all women, were identified through the National Training Board. They were unemployed and it was suggested they take the course, which is being funded by the NTB.The course runs five days a week.Ms Dill said all the students hoped to work in the salon industry once they finish, or even open their own nail business.She said it’s likely the College will run the course again in the New Year.For more information on the College’s nail salon at Tech Hall e-mail kesmith@college.bm.Express manicures cost $10 and pedicures $15, and spa manicures $15 and pedicures $20. A “deluze” service is also offered. And coming in November are French polish, popular gel nails and acrylics.
