Butterfield names Smatt head of corporate banking
Sean Smatt has been appointed the new head of corporate banking at Butterfield Bank.He was previously senior vice president for group insurance and funds at the bank.In his new role as senior vice president for corporate banking, Mr Smatt will be responsible for the development and day-to-day management of the bank’s corporate banking business on the Island.Michael Collins, Butterfield’s senior executive vice president, said: “Over the past five years, Sean has been a highly valued member of our corporate banking team and has earned the respect of our clients and his peers for his professionalism, leadership and expertise in credit and capital markets.“With Sean as our new head of corporate banking in Bermuda, our business will go from strength to strength.”Mr Smatt joined Butterfield’s corporate banking department as a vice president in March 2008.Prior to that, he was director of benchmark bond issuance at Groupe Credit Foncier in Paris, with responsibility for capital markets operations.He has also held management and analyst roles at local and international financial services firms.He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University.
