Six students start internship at ACE
Six Bermudian university students have started a dedicated insurance internship with ACE Bermuda. The internship, named ACE Select, has been created to offer students who are keen to pursue a career in insurance with a solid foundation in the industry together with on-the-job work experience, the company said.“I am delighted to welcome the first ACE Select insurance interns to ACE,” said Rees Fletcher, division president of ACE Bermuda. “Our goal is to equip students with the skills necessary to start their careers in the insurance industry as soon as they complete university. I am confident that they will gain a thorough understanding of the Bermuda insurance industry and its role in the global insurance market place.”During the 12-week internship the students will experience ACE Bermuda’s three main lines of business — property, excess liability and professional lines. In addition, students will receive training and mentoring to help develop their leadership and professional skills, and will have the opportunity to meet with industry associations to broaden their understanding of the Bermuda insurance industry. There was a competitive application process for the six internship places, Ace said. While there was not a requirement to study insurance, candidates had to demonstrate their desire to learn about the insurance industry and must have completed at least two years of university at an undergraduate level with a minimum 3.0 GPA to be considered for the internship. The students participating in the 2013 ACE Select programme are:1.
