KeyTech raises $4,500 for charities

Donation: Elizabeth Stewart, on behalf of Action on Alzheimer's & Dementia, and Major Shawn Critch, of the Salvation Army, receive their cheques from KeyTech’s Social Committee (acting) chairperson Latreece Fray.

KeyTech and its employees raised more than $4,500 for two charities in the run-up to Christmas.

The company’s Social Committee donated $1,000 to the Salvation Army’s Secret Santa and $3,520 to Action on Alzheimer’s & Dementia.

Some of the funds were raised at KeyTech’s annual Holiday Gala, which included a raffle. The proceeds were matched by KeyTech for the donation.

Elizabeth Stewart, of Action on Alzheimer’s & Dementia, said: “Action on Alzheimer’s & Dementia is hugely appreciative of KeyTech’s contribution to the charity. It will make a meaningful difference to those affected by dementia in Bermuda and help us raise the level of awareness and education around this illness.

“A third of all those caring for someone with dementia report having to miss work and one in three people over the age of 65 years will die with some form of dementia so recognition of this health issue by the public and the business community as not only a personal crisis, but an economic one, is immensely important.”

Major Shawn Critch, of the Salvation Army, said: “The Salvation Army is grateful for the donation from KeyTech in support of the community during this time of the year. Our shared values and hopes for our community as a whole have created an opportunity to give in support of others in order to make this Christmas as memorable as possible.”

In a statement, KeyTech said its employees’ charitable efforts extended throughout the year.

“Through these events the employees contribute to and support local organisations in areas such as education, the environment, arts, social services and sport,” the company stated.

The donation was presented to Ms Stewart and Major Critch by KeyTech’s Social Committee (Acting) chairperson Latreece Fray.
