Banks to close at 1pm tomorrow

Clarien Bank: One of the banks closing early tomorrow

Bermuda’s banks are to close early tomorrow as Hurricane Gonzalo takes aim at Bermuda.

All three main banks - HSBC, Butterfield and Clarien - will close at 1pm on Thursday.

HSBC said it would reopen “when it is deemed safe for our employees and customers to resume normal activites.Clarien Bank will shut up shop at 1pm tomorrow in advance of an expect hit by Hurricane Gonzalo.

The Bank of Butterfield said some ATM machines exposed to the weather would be taken out of service and that, while online services will continue, transactions after noon today may be delayed.

A spokeswoman for Clarien Bank said the Paget Plaza and Hamilton branches will remain closed through the weekend.

She added: “Customers are encouraged to complete all local transfers and wire transactions by noon on Thursday.

“If internet access is available, customers may also complete online transactions at www.clarienbank.com.”

She added: “Updates regarding the resumption of normal business operations will be communicated once all facilities and systems have been accessed post-storm impact to ensure the safety and security of Clarien customers and employees.”
