Digicel and CellOne make progress on repairs
Wireless services providers have been working to repair their hurricane-damaged networks over the weekend.
Digicel said a team of eight experts flew in today to bolster the company’s repair efforts, while CellOne said its network was up to three-quarters of capacity by Saturday night.
Alistair Beak, CEO of Digicel Bermuda said of the new arrivals: “The additional expertise will triple the current team of skilled riggers and installation engineers to allow for a much faster network recovery.
“The additional crew and equipment, will allow for teams of five to be split across the Island with every effort of delivering 100 percent capacity by the end of the week.
“We thank all of our customers again for their patience and understand how important mobile connectivity is to the people of Bermuda for both business and pleasure so we are focused on delivering on our promise of offering the best network and customer satisfaction.”
Mr Beak praised Digicel’s staff for working around the clock to bring its network back to 80 percent only 36 hours after Gonzalo.
“However, despite this great achievement we still have many customers who are not getting the service they expect,” he added.
Digicel restored sites in Flatts, Shelly Bay, St George’s, St David’s and at the airport today.
CellOne said its network capacity was up to 75 percent by 7.30pm on Saturday — a significant increase above where Hurricane Gonzalo left it in the early hours of Saturday morning.
“The field operations team for CellOne will continue to make repairs over the next few days to bring the network back up to 100 percent,” a CellOne spokesperson said. “Further updates will be circulated to the public accordingly. In the meantime CellOne is kindly asking customers to bear with them during the repairs while intermittent service may be experienced in pockets across the Island.”
