iClick manager sees glimpse of tech to come
Wraparound video and self-driving cars will have a big impact on people’s lives in coming years. And it is not a question of if they will arrive, it’s more a question of when.
That’s the view of John Narraway, the general manager of iClick and The Complete Office in Bermuda. He was monitoring developments at last week’s Consumer Electronics Show, widely known as CES, held in Las Vegas, which showcases the latest electronic and technologies.
Mr Narraway was impressed by what was showcased at the event, which featured more than 3,600 companies. He believes 360-degree video is one of the innovations that is going to be big, and in his view the “Internet of Things”, a phrase used to describe physical objects such as devices, cars and buildings that have embedded electronics and sensors allowing them to connect to a network and collect and exchange data, has moved beyond a strategic tipping point.
“I definitely saw a trend that is past its tipping point — the ‘Internet of Things’, where everything is ‘smart’. It is just a question of what connected items in your life provide value in the real world,” he said.
“The iPhone has also become the ‘universal remote’ of life and will continue to replace items in life such as credit cards, keys and DSLR cameras with new lenses announced by Carl Zeiss. Everything is becoming ‘smart’ or connected to your iOS device.”
