Long-established family clothes store Flatts Menswear yesterday opened up in Hamilton.

Mickey Adderley and daughter Jennifer Lindo have opened up Flatts Menswear Downtown in the Bermudiana Arcade on Hamilton’s Queen Street,

Ms Lindo said: “It’s been received positively.

“We have a strong local customer base from all parts of the island, Somerset to St George’s.

“We have been asked many times to open a store in Hamilton, but it was about finding the right space with easy access to parking and centrally located for foot traffic.

“Our new space in the Bermudiana Arcade became available and ticked all the boxes so we decided to expand.”

She added: “We are hopeful that our existing customers who find it difficult to get down to Flatts will be able to access us easier in town and that the additional location will help us to grow our customer base.”

Ms Lindo said: “We had been looking for space for a while — our business has been expanding in the past two or three years. Our customer base is growing and changing.

“We try to provide a good services with affordable, good-quality products. The business has grown because we’ve focused on that.”

Ms Lindo added that she believed the Bermuda economy was improving after years of recession.

She said: “We’re trying to approach it with a positive mindset.”

The business employs four people with a pool of three to four people that can be called on at busy times and the new store will initially be operated by existing staff.

But Ms Lindo said: “There is maybe potential to take on additional staff in the future.”

Flatts Menswear, which has been in business for more than 50 years, was taken over by Mr Adderley and Ms Lindo in 1979

The store carries a wide range of men’s clothing, shoes and accessories, as well as work clothing and uniforms.
